Songkran festival, marked as a traditional Thai new year celebration, is often associated with purification. The iconic water fights not only have a practical purpose of cooling down during the hottest day of summer but also symbolized spiritual cleansing to start anew for the year to come. The holidays are a blend of Buddhist beliefs with the principles of kindness and acceptance of traditional roots mixed with vibrant and energetic celebration of modern days.
On these celebrated holidays, Bangkok's club kids took to the streets to flip the tradition on its head at I WANNA BANGKOK shop in Silom. Led by YUMM Party, the leading queer clubbing community within Thailand, the angles of Bangkok showed up with their hottest and ready to get wet attire to honour the tradition in our own ways. Challenge the norm that queerness and tradition could coexist without devaluing one another.
